I teach a fluid yet demanding style of yoga created by the school of Sri Dharma Mittra, which is based on the traditional yoga practice of this master with more than 50 years of experience and who continues to share the practice at his centre in New York.
I teach the foundations of this practice which are the Yamas and Niyamas, especially Ahimsa (compassion towards all beings, avoid creating neither physical violence, nor verbal or mental), as the root of everything else, and its meaning is highly devotional (devotion to that which is supreme in ourselves).
I promote a meditative and spiritual practice, especially in the practice of asanas, because they are approached as an offering. I teache a devotional practice that focuses on good health, a clear mind and a kind heart.
I allow the student to progress through four sequences off movements that are linked to each other. Teaching a very high degree of freedom, who ends up constructing the practice based on the collective energy that is breathed at every moment in the room.
I always talk about the six mother postures of yoga, which are the foundations on which the balanced practice of Hatha Yoga is based, asanas that you will find with different variants in all my yoga classes: Padmasana, Paschimotanasana, Bhujangasana, Sirsasana, Sarvangasana and Ardha Matsyendrasana.
I sometimes teach the Shiva Namaskara opening sequence and because inverted postures or headstands are done half way in the practice back-bending and chest opening asanas are predominant in the practice.
I promote and provide many benefits on a physical level and also help to control thoughts and increase concentration. In fact, when moving into the postures I help the students to thinks more about offering the practice towards the absolute, like a prayer in movement, which is why it is considered one of the most devotional styles. The heart opening asanas also serve to unblock emotions and feelings that are locked inside.
I teach a modern interpretation of classical Eight-limbed or Hatha-Raja Yoga, deeply rooted in ethical precepts that includes elements of flowing Vinyasa, inversions and held poses that will help you to discover concentration, meditation, abiding contentedness, and deep healing relaxation.
I also teach and explain the physical posture practice (Asana) which tones and invigorates the body and mind, leading to enhanced flexibility, strength, balance, and concentration.
Also teaching and explaining breathing exercises (pranayama) and meditative techniques which regulates the heartbeat, de-stresses the nervous system and calms the mind. I teach a guided deep healing relaxation or Yoga Nidra which relieves stress, slows down thoughts, calms the mind and recharges one’s physical body. I teach a complete practice that will lead to radiant health, a peaceful life and, eventually self-realisation. I teach traditional, yet contemporary — perfect for the fast-paced world of today.
